The Second Wednesday in Advent Theme: "Uniquely Advent" Today’s Message: “Festival of Lessons and Carols”. Nine Lessons and Carols, also known as the Festival of Lessons and Carols, is a service traditionally celebrated on, or near, Christmas Eve.
The story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus is told in nine Bible readings from Genesis, the Prophetic books, and the Gospels, interspersed with the singing of Christmas hymns.
Edward White Benson is credited with creating the service of Lessons and Carols in 1880. Although the tradition of this service is associated with King's College, Cambridge, its origins are attributed to Truro Cathedral in Cornwall, England.
